New York's beautiful Finger Lakes region

Okay, I admit it, I'm biased -- it's where I grew up, and as an adult it's almost always been my first choice for a getaway or photo safari. But in recent years travelers from other locales have begun to discover what we Finger Lakes natives have always known: the region is one of the most beautiful in the United States, if not the world. Rolling hills, green farmland, and most of all, gorgeous natural lakes ... toss in the fact that it's New York's premier grape-growing and winemaking region, and you've got a wonderful travel destination to explore, whether you're biking, hiking, driving, or settling into a rented lakefront cottage for a week or so.

Don't believe me? See more of my Finger Lakes photos by clicking here. This one's a view of Bluff Point in Keuka Lake, formerly known as Crooked Lake due to its forked shape. The Bluff is the big chunk of land that noses southward into the lake, splitting the two northern ends and creating a Y shape. Great towns to visit on Keuka include Hammondsport and Penn Yan.
